In June 2025, after 12 months of work and planning with Insight Energy, we completed the installation of solar panels on the roof of our bonded warehouse in Basingstoke.
As a result, 63% of the warehouse’s power now comes from solar energy, with several days reaching 100% during the recent heat waves.
"Putting solar panels on our Basingstoke Bonded warehouse was a no-brainer. We have been Carbon Neutral since 2014, went one step further by becoming carbon-neutral plus in 2021, and now annually receive a 100% recycling rate with zero waste to landfill.
We are always looking at ways we can reduce our impact and had already seen the benefits of solar, having already installed panels at our offices and warehouse in London. It has been fantastic to see us reach 100% of our power needs at Basingstoke on the many sunny days we have had recently."
Tom Platt, CEO
To date, our Basingstoke solar usage is the same as:

As a result, we are now on track to:
-
Generate 465 MWh of clean energy annually
-
Save 89 tonnes of CO₂ per year
-
Be powered by a minimum of 80% solar energy

Sustainability is a long-term commitment at Liberty Wines. In 2014, we became the first UK wine company to achieve carbon-neutral certification. In 2021, we took this one step further by becoming Carbon Neutral Plus, and, as a result, the carbon emissions associated with each £1 of wine we sell have now dropped by 39% since 2017. In 2023, we installed solar panels on the roof of our London office and warehouse.
We opened our Basingstoke warehouse in August 2023 as part of our ongoing commitment to improving service wherever we can. We know the value our customers put on reliability, speed of response and the ability to adapt to changing needs, and this has allowed us to be an even stronger partner to our customers. Built with sustainability in mind, it utilises rainwater harvesting, ground-source heat pumps, smart-lights and zero-to-landfill waste collection.
"From the outset, creating a sustainable site was a top priority. Being involved in the base build of our warehouse allowed us to design the facility specifically to support a full rooftop solar installation. While this was a significant investment, the benefits we've already seen, both environmentally and commercially, have more than justified the cost”
Stuart Murfitt, Operations Director
We are constantly seeking to reduce our environmental impact, refine our practices, and ensure that we remain restless in our pursuit of sustainability. Introducing solar power to our Basingstoke warehouse, alongside EV charging points, is yet another key milestone in our sustainability journey.
